Mae’r sgwrs hon yn archwilio sut mae esgyniad Cymdeithas Clwb Pêl-droed Wrecsam - ar y cae ac oddi arno - yn dylanwadu ar gymunedau lleol a byd-eang. Drwy gyfrwng prosiect ymchwil cydweithredol sy’n cynnwys arolygon, cyfweliadau a dadansoddi dogfennol, mae’r siaradwyr yn archwilio sut mae llwyddiant y clwb a’i amlygrwydd yn y cyfryngau yn llunio hunaniaeth ranbarthol, iaith a diwylliant Cymru, a phrofiadau cefnogwyr.

Mae’r tîm hefyd yn edrych ar sut mae sefydliad elusennol y clwb yn esblygu i fodloni anghenion lleol a rhyngwladol. Mae’r drafodaeth amserol hon yn dadorchuddio traweffeithiau cymdeithasol ehangach clwb pêl-droed wrth iddo drawsnewid - gan dynnu sylw at bosibiliadau a chymhlethdodau newid cymunedol sy’n cael ei yrru gan chwaraeon.

Mae Sara Hilton yn Uwch Ddarlithydd, yn hyfforddwr Trwydded A UEFA, ac yn ffigwr arweiniol mewn addysg bêl-droed a datblygiad cymunedol ym Mhrifysgol Wrecsam. A hithau’n siaradwr Cymraeg rhugl ac yn Gymrawd yr Academi Addysg Uwch, mae hi’n addysgu ar gynllun gradd BSc (Anrh) Hyfforddiant Pêl-droed ac Arbenigwr Perfformiad ac yn arwain darpariaeth ôl-raddedig a phartneriaeth mewn chwaraeon. Fel cyn hyfforddwr cynorthwyol ar gyfer tîm Merched Cymru dan 19, mae Sara yn dod â phrofiad cymwysedig dwfn i’w gwaith academaidd. Mae PhD Sara yn archwilio sut mae Cymdeithas Clwb Pêl-droed Wrecsam a’i sefydliad wedi dylanwadu ar hunaniaeth, diwylliant a lles cymunedol.

Mae Dr Chris White yn ddarlithydd yn yr Adran Iechyd a Lles ym Mhrifysgol Wrecsam gyda ffocws ei ymchwil ar weithgarwch corfforol, iechyd cyhoeddus a phartneriaethau cymunedol. Cwblhaodd ei PhD yn 2023 ar deithio iach fel mater iechyd cyhoeddus. Mae Chris yn gweithio’n agos gydag awdurdodau lleol, cyrff cenedlaethol a Chymdeithas Clwb Pêl-droed Wrecsam ar ymchwil sy’n pontio chwaraeon, iechyd a chymdeithas. Mae hefyd yn arweinydd sefydliadol ar gyfer Sefydliad Gweithgarwch Corfforol, Iechyd a Chwaraeon.

About:

This talk explores how Wrexham Association Football Club’s (AFC) rapid rise—on and off the pitch—is influencing local and global communities. Through a collaborative research project involving surveys, interviews, and documentary analysis, the speakers examine how the club’s success and media exposure are shaping regional identity, Welsh language and culture, and fan experiences.

The team also look at how the club’s charitable foundation is evolving to meet both local and international needs. This timely discussion uncovers the wider social impacts of a football club in transformation—highlighting both the possibilities and complexities of sport-driven community change.



About the speakers:

Sara Hilton is a Senior Lecturer, UEFA A Licence coach, and a leading figure in football education and community development at Wrexham University. Fluent in Welsh and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, she teaches on the BSc (Hons) Football Coaching and Performance Specialist degree and leads postgraduate and partnership provision in sport. A former assistant coach for the Wales Women U19 national team, Sara brings deep applied experience to her academic work. Sara’s PhD explores how Wrexham AFC and its foundation influence identity, culture, and community wellbeing.

Dr Chris White is a lecturer in the Health and Wellbeing Department at Wrexham University with a research focus on physical activity, public health, and community partnerships. He completed his PhD in 2023 on active travel as a public health issue. Chris works closely with local authorities, national bodies, and Wrexham AFC on research that bridges sport, health, and society. He is also an institutional lead for the Welsh Institute of Physical Activity, Health and Sport.
